Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada Volodymyr Groysman and Head of Needs Assessment Mission of the European Parliament Pat Cox had a meeting on Thursday. The meeting was dedicated to results of the Mission's work in the Ukrainian Parliament.
Groysman said that the Mission, which worked under the Memo on cooperation between the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and the European Parliament signed last year, had provided enormous work of the assessment of needs of the Ukrainian Parliament. "It is obvious that our Parliament, which now resembles the parliaments of the soviet times, has to be turned into a European Parliament, it has to be open, public, and its decisions should be effective. Thus, we are trying to achieve the standards of the European Parliament and parliaments of the European countries," Groysman said.
The Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada said that soon, once the Mission's work is over, the leaders of parliamentary factions and groups will elaborate an action plan basing on the work's results. "I am confident that along with the people's deputies, the heads of the parliamentary factions and the groups of the Ukrainian Parliament, we will be able to realize quite an ambitious and high-quality plan," he said.
The Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada also thanked Mr. Cox for his work.
In turn, Mr. Cox informed that over the period of the Mission's stay in Ukraine, it has had over a hundred meetings. The report and the Roadmap on results of the Mission's work will be presented within the framework of the Ukrainian Week at the European Parliament in Brussels (Belgium) in late February 2016.
The Head of the Mission also thanked Groysman for openness and advices in the course of the Mission's work, and heads of all factions and groups for their support, and the leadership of the Secretariat of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine for cooperation in reforms.
